Dental Exams & Cleanings
What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Cleanings and exams can both help to keep your smile healthy and bright. Cleanings are performed by a licensed dental hygienist who works to clear away stains and tartar from the teeth, thus preventing gum disease and tooth decay. Exams are performed by our doctor, who works to look for active problems that need to be addressed before they’re able to get worse. It’s important to make time for these appointments every six months as part of your preventative care regimen.
Why are Dental Exams & Cleanings needed?
If you continually forgo dental exams and cleanings, you may find that your smile begins to experience problems that require more invasive treatment. Unfortunately, many people forgo regular trips to the dentist because they’re nervous, fearful or just don’t feel that it’s important enough. The key to maintaining a healthy smile is preventing issues from happening in the first place, and this can be done with a cleaning and exam.
Who is a candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Every member of your family is a great candidate for both cleanings and exams. We recommend getting kids in for their first appointment once their teeth start to come in. For children, teens and adults, we recommend coming in every six months so that we can keep up with the maintenance of your smile. It is important to take the time to make these visits a priority.
What happens during the procedure for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
The appointment will begin by having you sit comfortably in our hygiene room. Our hygienist takes x-rays of your teeth and then works to remove plaque and tartar that have accumulated on your smile. The teeth are polished and flossed before the gums are checked for signs of gum disease. The doctor then comes into the room and performs the actual exam. The doctor is looking for cavities, oral cancer and other intraoral problems that need to be treated.
