Dental Emergencies
What are Dental Emergencies?
Emergencies can leave you in severe pain and feeling incredibly frustrated. Even with the best laid efforts to care for your smile, emergencies can and do happen. If you’re experiencing an emergency, it is important not to panic but to call our office as soon as possible. We can help to treat the problem so that you can get back to your busy life and schedule.
Why is treatment of Dental Emergencies necessary?
Many patients assume that their emergency isn’t severe enough to warrant a trip into the dental office. Unfortunately, many dental-related issues won’t resolve themselves. They may only get worse with time, and this can lead to infections, abscesses and even tooth loss. It is important to be seen as soon as possible if you’re experiencing a dental-related emergency.
What are some of the more common Dental Emergencies?
We see many dental emergencies on a regular basis. No emergency is too big or too small for us to handle. Some of the common issues we see on a routine basis include:
- Severe toothache and pain
- Abscesses and infections
- Broken, cracked or chipped teeth
- Loose or broken restorations and appliances
- Wisdom tooth pain and swelling
- Gum pain, swelling and bleeding
What happens during treatment of Dental Emergencies?
The first step is to get you into our office to be seen for the emergency. We will sit you comfortably in one of our examination rooms. We then work to ask you questions regarding the problem so that we can help in identifying and treating it. We may take x-rays, if they are necessary, to further identify the problem. The doctor then treats the issue so that you can get back to your busy day. If you have an active infection upon visiting the office, we’ll typically prescribe an antibiotic before any type of treatment is done so that the infection can clear.
If you would like to come into our office for treatment of an emergency, call us right away and we can get you in at your earliest convenience.
